Kurt Volker announced on Friday that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is leaving his post as US Special Envoy in Ukraine. Volker did not want to give any explanation publicly.

But sources for the New York Times say that Volker considered he could not do his job because of the situation that emerged following the disclosures surrounding Donald Trump's talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj.

Put Biden there

According to a whistleblower, the US president should have put pressure on Zelenskyj to force him to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden's son for corruption. Trump's aim should have been to make Joe Biden, one of Trump's foremost challengers in the 2020 election, appear in bad days.

The fact that Trump is accused of using his influence to try to get a foreign power to take action that could affect the election has meant that the Democrats now want to put the president before state law.

Kurt Volker is a respected NATO ambassador and, in the role of special envoy, has worked to help Ukraine resolve the conflict with Russia. Now he leaves his mission, and thus the United States now has no ambassador or any envoy in Ukraine.

Giuliani shows Volker's sms

Something that may have influenced Volkner's decision to leave is that President Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani has shown text messages from Volker in the Fox News TV channel. Giuliani should have done so in an attempt to nuance the story of Trump's conversation with the Ukrainians.

The text message, which Giuliani also published on Twitter, states that Volker and Giuliani ate breakfast together and that Volker helped Giuliani get in touch with Zelenskyj's closest employees.
