The funeral of Robert Mugabe is experiencing yet another rebound in Zimbabwe: against all odds, the former president will ultimately not be buried in the "field of heroes of the nation" but in his village of Kutama, in the district of Zvimba.

The balance of power finally turned, at the last moment, in favor of the family of the former president, including his widow, Grace Mugabe.

Yet, following the national funeral two weeks ago, Emmerson Mnangagwa had Robert Mugabe rested alongside his first wife, Sally Mugabe, at the "Field of Heroes of the Nation," a monument built near the capital to offer one last remains to those who fought for the liberation of the country.

A funeral that would have symbolically signed the reconciliation between the two camps, and shows the current president as the worthy successor to the one he has helped to overthrow.

The family had gained time, justifying the construction of a new mausoleum and the preparation of the body would take several weeks. And now "Comrade Bob" is finally back, and this time for good, in his village of Kutama .

The government said it was complying with this decision, accepting the latter affront from Robert Mugabe, who was very bitter towards his former party until his last days.

Robert Mugabe, head of Zimbabwe for 37 years, died earlier this month in Singapore, at the age of 95, from cancer. After postponements, his burial should finally take place this Saturday afternoon.
