Only 21 of 65 ticket vending machines will remain in the center of Växjö, it was Smålandsposten first to tell. Previously, it was decided that all parking machines would be replaced due to a security increase for card payment at the turn of the year, but now the procurement has been canceled.

- The reason we canceled the procurement is that we have seen that many more people use the parking apps that we launched about two years ago. Then it is not justified to complete the procurement and buy up lots of new parking vending machines, says Sofia Stynsberg (M), Chairman of the Technical Committee at Växjö Municipality.

The need for parking machines has changed

According to the municipality, almost 50 percent now pay with the help of parking apps.

- It speaks its clear language that most people want to pay in this way and then it is important that we keep up with this, says Sofia Stynsberg (M).

How far should one have to go to find a parking machine?

- I can't answer how many meters you have to walk, but there should be around municipal parking lots. Today, several vending machines can stand close to each other as there could be queues at the vending machines in the past. When more people pay with the app, there is no longer that need.

In the new parking machines you will be able to pay with both cash and cards.
