The Marvel studios and their rival Sony finally found a common ground around Spider-Man's film rights and announced Friday that they would produce, as expected, future films featuring the spider-man embodied in the film. screen by Tom Holland.

Last month, the Hollywood media had revealed that, failing agreement with Sony, Marvel had decided to withdraw from the project to focus on other superhero franchises.

On Friday, the two giants of entertainment announced that Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, was going to produce the third film in the series inaugurated with "Spider-Man: Homecoming".

This new opus, whose title is not yet known, is due out July 16, 2021.

"I'm delighted that Spidey +'s journey into the Marvel film world is continuing, and everyone at Marvel, including me, is excited to continue working on it," said Kevin Feige in a statement. spouse received by AFP.

Marvel, bought in 2009 by the Disney group, holds the rights of many superheroes from comics created by Stan Lee (Avengers, Black Panther, etc.) and now also has access to those in the lap of the Fox (X- Men especially) that Disney has just acquired.

But Sony has the film rights of Spider-Man.

For decades, the spider-man has been the standard bearer of comics on which Marvel built his empire.

He is also one of the most successful superheroes in the film industry, including an Oscar last year for the animated movie "Spider-Man: New Generation".

It took a historic and confidential deal in 2015 between Sony and Marvel to allow Spider-Man to integrate the storyline of the Marvel universe (five films in total, three alongside the Avengers as well as "Spider-Man: Homecoming "in 2017 and" Spider-Man: Far From Home ", success of the summer).

In addition to the one planned in 2021, a fourth film with the spider-man is planned, always with Tom Holland and the director Jon Watts.

"Spider-Man is a strong symbol and hero whose story runs through every generation and audience in the world, and is the only superhero to have the super-power to cross the cinematic worlds. As Sony continues to develop its own Spider-Man universe, we do not know what the future holds, "said Kevin Feige.

Marvel has completed the Avengers saga with "Avengers: Endgame" but his program remains busy with, besides Spider-Man, the Black Widow, Thor, Doctor Strange, the Chinese superhero Shang-Chi, and the return of the vampire hunter Blade.
