Long waiting times for cell test response in Kronoberg

The reason for the long wait is that more and more people are doing cell tests since the women's clinic started sending calls with times.

- At the same time, the staff working on the cytologist has not increased, so the queues are growing, says Sanda Beglerbegovic, director of clinical pathology and cytology.

She says that you always prioritize samples that are taken because of, for example, symptoms and thus are not a health check. Then the woman will receive an answer within two weeks or earlier.

- It is important to know that it is about health checks. Although we detect cell changes, it takes up to 10 years to develop cancer.

The Kronoberg region has started introducing a new care program to shorten the waiting times for responses to cell samples. The first calls under the new program were sent out at the end of September.
