Nuremberg (dpa) - According to the job index of the Federal Employment Agency (BA-X), the demand for manpower from the economy fell slightly in September.

The index was set at 238 points for September, three points less than in August and 19 points lower than a year ago. Nevertheless, demand is still high in the longer term. The average of 2004 is given as 100. The BA-X is based on current and actual job applications of companies.

Background of the current decline is a slowdown in economic activity. These are particularly noticeable in temporary employment, manufacturing and logistics, said the Federal Agency on Friday.

The agency will present its labor market statistics for the month of September next Monday. Calculated with a seasonal decline in unemployment compared to August.
