Argentine authorities have seized a shipment of 254 kilos of cocaine that was to be sent by air to Spain, official sources from the South American country reported Thursday.

The drug, inside suitcases, was seized at the Ezeiza airport, outside Buenos Aires and the main one in Argentina, where thirteen people were also arrested.

The operation was carried out last Tuesday by members of the Airport Security Police and Argentine Customs personnel at the airport.

"There, during the embarkation of an aircraft they detected some bags with 254 kilograms of cocaine - valued at almost 150 million pesos (2.5 million dollars) - on a flight of the company Air Europa bound for the city of Madrid" , said the Argentine Ministry of Security in a statement.

The case is in the hands of Judge Pablo Yadarola, head of the National Criminal Criminal Court No. 2, who ordered a series of raids in the city of Buenos Aires and in the provinces of Neuquén and Buenos Aires to identify all those involved .

Under these records, the Police confiscated cash - about US $ 9,000 and 92,000 Argentine pesos (1,560 dollars) -, firearms, 32 ammunition, electronic equipment and documentation of interest for the judicial case.
