08 August 2017A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Turkey in the Bodrum area. This was announced by the American Geological Institute (Usgs). At the moment there are no damages to people or things.

The epicenter of the earthquake swarm was recorded 14 km south-east of the famous Turkish tourist resort of Bodrum, at a depth of 10 km. Since the beginning of the year the Aegean coast has been hit several times by earthquakes of magnitude greater than 5.

Last month, a magnitude 6 to 6.7 earthquake was recorded in the Aegean Sea, causing two deaths on the Greek island of Kos and hundreds of wounded between Turkey and Greece.

Today's quake caused panic in the busy Aegean tourist center and was also felt in the nearby Greek island of Kos. Many tourists hastily abandoned their hotels and flocked to the streets. According to a witness it was the most violent shock of the last two weeks.

Since 20 July, 20 earthquakes have been recorded, including today's earthquake, in the triangle between nearby Datca (Turkey), Bodrum and Kos.
