  • Badalona: False alarm: the alleged bombs were concrete

Civil Guard divers investigate whether an artifact located on the beach of Sant Sebastià, in Barcelona, is another ancient explosive originating in the Civil War. Last August another metallic object was found on the same beach that turned out to be a bomb of the armed conflict, located just a few meters from the shore. As then, the Urban Guard and the Mossos d'Esquadra have evicted tens of meters of the area on Wednesday to avoid any incident while checking if it is a howitzer.

As confirmed by sources from the Special Groups of Underwater Activities (GEAS) of the Civil Guard, the device has been located this Wednesday morning. After conducting a test dive, divers have recommended to the Urban Guard to vacate the beach. The device has been located by a swimmer who was in the area and is buried about 4.5 meters deep, as confirmed by the Civil Guard.

Last August the presence of the explosive generated a lot of expectation and forced the bathers away for two days until the Navy experts managed to deactivate the bomb, more than a meter and 80 mm in diameter, tens of meters from the shore. Then it was a member of GEAS himself who located the bomb, which was detonated without any victims or damage of any kind.
