Venezuela's delegate to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday deliberately ignored US President Donald Trump's speech to members of the General Assembly in New York.

A picture of the Venezuelan delegate mired in reading a book about national hero Simon Bolivar, during the president's speech, showed a clear signal that she does not care what Trump says.

In his speech, President Trump said that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is only a puppet of Cubans.

He pointed out that Cubans are looting Venezuela's oil wealth in order to preserve communist regimes.

"I tell the Venezuelan people who are living this nightmare, know that America is united behind you," Trump said in his speech.

"The United States has a lot of humanitarian aid and is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela," he said. "We look forward to the day when democracy is restored and Venezuela is free and the region prevails."

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro does not participate in the UN General Assembly. He preferred to travel to Moscow to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.
