The social networking sites in Egypt caught fire after the star Mohamed Salah deleted the name of Egypt and flag it from the identification box in his Twitter account, and the Liverpool star chose to respond early before the argument developed further.

On Twitter, social media tweets showed Salah deleting Egypt's name and flag from his Twitter box, saying he was a Liverpool player.

Interpretations of the move have been mixed, and some have seen it as a new episode in the renewed dispute between Salah and his country's football federation.

Others have linked Salah's decision to lose at least 10 points in the FIFA World Player of the Year award on Monday, because former coach Javier Aguirre and captain Ahmed al-Mohammadi did not vote for their nominations after the deadline.

In light of this controversy, Salah came out with a tweet in which he affirmed his commitment to defend the colors of his country, and published a picture of him in the shirt of the Egyptian team, accompanied by the words "Whatever they try to change my love Leaky and people do not know."

Salah finished fourth with 26 points in the FIFA list, just 10 points behind third-placed Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.
