Samoa suffered to beat Russia's bonus (34-9) on Tuesday in Kumagaya, north of Tokyo, for their entry into the World Cup.
Samoa will face Scotland on Monday to try to take a step towards the quarter-finals in a group A where Ireland and Japan have 5 points like them.
