“On behalf of the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor’s Office ... checks are being carried out on the implementation of legislation on the safety of navigation, as well as during the rescue operation,” the agency said.
According to prosecutors, there are no fatalities and injuries as a result of the incident.
Earlier, 40 kilometers south of Iturup Island, a fire occurred at the Peter Zhitnikov floating base, the captain requested evacuation.
Later, the Ministry of Emergency Situations announced the completion of evacuation from the floating base.
