“Someone helps the groups”: the Russian Ministry of Defense spoke about militant drones shot down near Khmeimim

Impact drones of terrorists from Syria are quite technically sophisticated and are capable of flying up to 150 km and climbing to a height of up to 4 thousand meters. This was announced by the spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major General Igor Konashenkov, during a demonstration of UAVs shot down by Russian air defense at the air base in Khmeimime in September

He noted that externally the devices look inconspicuous, however, for their assembly a special education is necessary, since the design contains complex technical solutions. So, on one of the drones, a control system for navigation was installed, three antennas, special consoles for mounting ammunition.

At the same time, on another device, the power plant was made from a simple five-liter barrel with gasoline.

“The ammunition release mechanism was much more interesting: when approaching a designated point, it was simply pushed and dropped from a height of one and a half to two kilometers,” Konashenkov said.

The representative of the Russian defense department noted that over time, the militants improve technical solutions. The Ministry of Defense experts analyze downed UAVs and, according to their findings, provide assistance to terrorists from the outside.

“We understand that the assembly takes place according to some schemes and patterns. And someone who owns these technologies helps terrorist groups, ”Konashenkov emphasized.

Militant attacks

Note that the militants periodically make attempts to attack Russian forces in Khmeimim. As a rule, drones are used for these purposes. So, the last attack using two drones was carried out on September 3 - both terrorist UAVs were shot down at a safe distance, no one was hurt and the base itself was also not damaged.

"With the standard anti-aircraft fire weapons of the Russian air base, all two terrorist unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed at safe distances," the statement said to RT.

And before that, on August 11, six drones were already used in the attack. They were also destroyed on the way up - there were no injuries or material damage.

Russia has repeatedly drawn attention to attacks and attacks carried out by militants hiding in the Idlib de-escalation zone. So, according to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, terrorists control more than 90% of Idlib. On August 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that militants constantly carry out provocations.

“Throughout this year, such provocations did not stop. They are in the tens, if not hundreds. Including several dozens of provocations using unmanned aerial vehicles, attack drones that tried to hit targets on the territory of the air base of the Russian Federation in Khmeimim, ”he said.

At the same time, Russia noted the benefit of the United States from the continuation of the conflict in Syria. Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the National Defense Management Center of the Russian Federation (NTSUO), noted that in this way Washington receives explanations for the illegal presence of its troops in the Arab Republic.

“The United States and its allies are indifferent to the fate of ordinary Syrians. The Americans need the centers of tension in Syria only to justify their illegal presence on the territory of a sovereign state and to satisfy their geopolitical ambitions by any means, ”he said.

At the same time, the armed conflict in the rest of the country is over. According to Lavrov, the country "is gradually returning to a normal, peaceful life." This was made possible, among other things, thanks to the Russian military, who did everything possible to end the war, said earlier the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense Sergey Shoigu.

“In order for them to go to these schools, many, many of our employees, doctors, engineers, commanders did everything so that their studies, their lives became safe,” he said.

Moreover, the final normalization of the situation in the Arab Republic should occur thanks to the work of the constitutional committee. This was the result of negotiations between the countries of the Astana process (Russia, Turkey and Iran) said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We proceed from the fact that the work of the constitutional committee will have a decisive impact on the final normalization of the situation in the SAR,” he said.

Recall, the Syrian constitutional committee will have to develop a new basic law of the Arab Republic. It includes representatives of the government, the opposition and civil society. For a long time, the parties could not regulate its composition, but on September 23, UN Secretary General Antoniu Guterres announced the completion of the committee.

“I am pleased to announce the agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian negotiation committee to create a balanced, credible and inclusive Constitutional Committee,” he said.

Work will begin in the coming weeks, Gutterisch emphasized. He expressed gratitude to Russia, Turkey and Iran for their assistance in this process.

“I am grateful to the governments of Russia, Turkey and Iran for their efforts in the field of diplomacy to assist in concluding this agreement,” he added, also thanking the countries of the UN Security Council and the “small group” - Great Britain, France, the USA, Germany, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
