"Under-staffed" premises "old", staff "breathless" and "the edge of cracking full": about forty caregivers of the maternity hospital Paris Lariboisière launch "a call for help", relayed Tuesday on the site of the collective Inter-Emergency.

"It's a real cry of distress," write "nurses nurses, nurses, nursery assistants, caregivers" or "midwives" of this service located near the guard of the North ( Xth arrondissement), in a tribune of which Le Monde echoes itself.

"How to ensure the safety of patients, babies when we are understaffed just tense, we live above our means of reception?" Asked the signatories.

If nothing is done, they warn, "a disaster will happen" as "general emergency" Lariboisière, where a patient was found dead in December on a stretcher, nearly 12 hours after admission.

Last year "already", the caregivers had sounded the "alarm bell", backed by their head of department, who had threatened "to stop all new registrations at the maternity," they explain in their text.

A "diagnosis work" was then launched, according to the direction of the Public Assistance - Paris Hospitals (AP-HP) - on which depends the establishment.

The resulting reorganization plan includes "the creation of five jobs to strengthen the maternity workforce" and the transformation of nursing jobs "into midwifery jobs for seamless care", explained the management. AFP.

But the project, which can only be deployed after the October 3 presentation of an expertise requested by the CHSCT, does not satisfy the authors of the text, who deplore a "removal" of nursing positions.

They also denounce "obsolete premises with unprotected electrical outlets, molds on ceilings, (...) lacerated bed mattresses" or "medical equipment that breaks down regularly and is replaced only three weeks later ".

And express their "shame" to sometimes have to leave their room of young homeless mothers to install "on the ground" with their infant in a small room dedicated to lack of accommodation.

Like "other maternity Paris," Lariboisière provides "temporary shelter for the night" women out of maternity "without accommodation solution", said the management of the AP-HP, ensuring "search" individualized solutions adapted to each ".
