The Hiltons no longer shine as before

Barron Hilton passed away last week at age 91 in Los Angeles from natural causes. The grandfather of Paris Hilton, who spent three decades at the head of the hotel empire created by his father, Conrad Hilton, in 1919, has left almost all his fortune to the entity that bears the name of the founder.

His most popular granddaughter said goodbye to his grandfather on social media with a loving message. "He was a legend, a visionary, a bright, handsome and kind being who lived a life full of achievements and adventures. The last conversation we had was a few days ago and I told him how much it influenced my life," Paris Hilton wrote in Instagram

Accompanied by several photos in which he appears with him throughout his life, Paris revealed that since he was a child he saw his grandfather as a businessman and said he was very grateful for having had an "incredible" mentor who always wanted he felt "proud" of her.

The truth is that relations with his granddaughter were not always the most cordial and on occasion the American tycoon came to recognize that he felt "ashamed" about the behavior of the socialite , according to writer Jerry Oppenheimer in a book about the family Hilton published in 2006.

The fortune of Barron Hilton , valued by the Bloomberg agency at about 1,250 million dollars at the time of his death, was amassed thanks to his business in the hotel world and through his sports investments, since he was the founder and owner of the team of American football of the Los Angeles Chargers .

Hilton announced in 2007 his intention to donate 97% of his fortune to charities. That same year he sold the family business to the Blackstone investment fund, in a mega operation valued at 26,000 million dollars for its 2,800 hotels in 76 countries around the world.

The remaining 3% will be for his heirs, including his eight children, 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. "The Hilton family regrets the loss of a remarkable man. He lived a life of great adventures and exceptional achievements," his son Steven, president of the Hilton Foundation, said in a statement.

Barron Hilton, who was born in the city of Dallas (Texas) on October 23, 1927, was stepmother to Zsa Zsa Gabor when his father left his mother for the Hollywood star in 1942, and also served as a groomsman in the link of his brother Conrad Nicky Hilton with Elizabeth Taylor in 1950.

The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation was established by the family patriarch in 1944 and since then has been dedicated to allocating funds to charities that work to improve the living conditions of people living in poverty around the world.
