September 23, 2019In 2018 GDP growth in volume was 0.8%, with a downward revision of 0.1 percentage points compared to the estimate released in April, which gave the Gross Domestic Product up by 0.9% . This was revealed by Istat which reconstructed the series of national accounts, during the general revision planned by the Institute five years after the last one. However, the GDP of 2017 does not change, which remains (+ 1.7%). Here, in one year, growth has more than halved.

The overall tax burden in 2018 is 41.8%, an improvement compared to the estimated 42.1% in April. This was revealed by Istat, which also saw a decrease in the 2017 figure, for which the same correction is valid (-0.3 percentage points). The year-on-year stability is therefore confirmed.

The net borrowing of general government in relation to GDP was equal to 2.2% in 2018. This was revealed by Istat, thus marking an upward revision compared to the previous estimate, which gave the deficit to 2.1% of the gross domestic product. However, the figure is improving compared to 2.4% in 2017.
