Leaves - January 2017

Fazer's bread factory in Hökmark notifies all 60 employees of dismissal and the production moves to Umeå. The staff are offered to follow along and some chose to do so.

- It was probably a pretty good solution for the vast majority of people who worked at the factory, but for Skellefteå municipality, 60 jobs disappeared from the municipality. Then I don't think you should be so worried about finding a job. Most companies in Skellefteå are doing very well and so we have an upcoming big establishment in the battery factory, says Bengt Ivansson, business manager in Skellefteå.

Lycksele • December 2016

Ikea Industry notifies 85 persons of dismissal. The notification never becomes a reality as the factory gets new owners.

- It was a happy ending and now they are more employees than they have ever been to the factory. It was not possible for employees to leave but it turned around in the meantime, then some people chose to quit themselves and started working elsewhere or studying. But that went well, says Christer Rönnlund (M), municipal council Lycksele.

Malå • December 2016

Ikea industry notifies 59 employees of termination and ceases production.

- Another company in Malå bought the factory and they are now developing a new business in the premises. They have also employed the part of those who quit when Ikea Industry laid down. The problem we have in Malå is rather that we have a need for labor. There are probably none of those who lost their jobs who have not been offered jobs elsewhere. We also have companies in the municipality that say if they only got hold of people they would hire, says Arne Hellsten (ML) municipal politician in Malå.

Norsjö • October 2015

The window manufacturer Inwido notifies 69 employees and the production moves to Vetlanda. The staff were invited to attend, but only a few people accepted the offer.

- I feel that most people chose to stay in Norsjö, and it was also a craving for skilled labor in the other industries that went well and those who were laid off got employment in other companies. In addition, a new establishment came into Inwido's old premises that also employed people, says Beatriz Axelsson, growth manager in Norsjö.

Robertsfors • July 2014

Element six notifies 185 employees of dismissal. The factory is closed and production is moved abroad.

- Absolutely most people have got new jobs and very few have been moved. But the forms of employment are probably a bit uncertain for some today. It is more hourly and perhaps slightly lower wages, and there are also more commuters working today than before. But then we have probably also had some flow with a strong business cycle and other companies that may have had 20 employees have doubled their staff strength. They have been able to recruit competent staff and that is where you have the big growth engine, ”says Olle Norberg, business manager in Robertsfors.

Umeå • October 2013

Volvo trucks announces that 500 services will be removed at the cab factory. The assembly moves to Gothenburg and 350 people lose the job.

-I was not myself when the warning came but know that it went very well for most people. The lack of skills meant that many other companies were able to capture these people. Umeå has also had and has a very strong labor market in recent years and the demand for labor is high. On the whole, things went very well for most people, says Peter Juneblad, business manager in Umeå.

Vilhelmina • December 2012

SCA sawmill notifies 53 of termination and the saw closes.

- It was a tragic story but the municipality was quickly out and created education through our Learning Center that captured some. Many also got jobs through the expertise they had at other companies in the municipality or in other municipalities and started commuting weekly. But the closure of the saw also affected other companies that did jobs for the saw, in addition, the trade lost an incredible amount. We handled the situation as well as we could, but it is clear that in the best of worlds we would have had the saw, ”says Karl-Johan Ottosson, acting labor market manager in Vilhelmina.
