It is Prolympia that will run the school. The company already has sports elementary schools in several locations in the country. The school in Helsingborg will be the tenth.

- We have not tried to establish ourselves in Helsingborg entirely on our own initiative, it comes from a real demand from the associations with HIF at the forefront, says Henric Lilja, sports and marketing manager at Prolympia Syd.

The new school will be a high school with pupils in grades 7-9 and room for 336 pupils.

It is unclear where the school should be located

But there are still some question marks. The permit to start school is valid from the autumn semester of 2020 at the earliest - but it can also take until the following year. It is also not clear where the school will be located. A current proposal is the Olympia area.

- We have looked at a number of premises but have not signed any real estate agreement yet, says Henric Lilja.

In the initial phase, it was mainly six associations that were at the center of the initiative, but now more have shown interest.

Not just football

- We must have been the locomotive and had the first contact with Prolympia and tried to push the issue towards the municipality and other sports associations, says Jonas Ohlander, youth manager at Helsingborgs IF. Our ambition is for as many sports as possible to be represented and a mix of guys and girls.

"We see school as an important part of our young people's lives," he continues. It's not just football, it's school too, you have to have a dual career plan.

Increased need for primary school places in the center

More and more families with children are moving to Helsingborg and this creates a greater need for more primary school places. In five years, the municipality expects to have just over 850 more pupils in grades 7-9 than today.

To meet this need, the municipality is also planning an elementary school in the H + area in the harbor in a few years' time. And right in the center, according to Maria Winberg Nordström (L), chair of the Children and Education Board, there is an increased need.

- We now see a trend that families with children choose to stay, previously we saw that these families moved out of the center, she says.
