Thousands of people protested Saturday in the Swiss capital Bern against the arrival of a wireless 5G connection throughout the country. The protesters fear that the network would be harmful to health.
The protesters gathered in front of the Swiss parliament building in an attempt to stop the construction of more 5G antennas.
"The fact that so many people have turned out today is a strong sign against the uncontrolled introduction of 5G," said Tamlin Schibler Ulmann, co-president of Frequencia, the group that organized the demonstration.
Many Swiss critics claim that the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the new system involves unprecedented health and environmental risks.
In many administrative regions in Switzerland, including Geneva, Vaud, Friborg and Neuchatel, their plans have already been postponed due to major criticism of the announcement of plans to build more 5G antennas.
The Swiss Federation of Physicians (FMH) is also cautious and argues for a careful approach to the new technology.
