The woman had gone to a grocery store to shop and brought the dog with her. Some private individuals alerted police when they responded to a dog barking violently in a car in the parking lot outside the store.

A police patrol arrived and searched the woman in the store.

The woman has denied the crime and said the dog was so quiet when she went to the store that she did not think it was left in the car while she was inside and shopping.

Had no ventilation

The district court finds that conditions were such that the dog should not even have been in the car for a short while. It had neither access to ventilation nor water.

The woman was charged with animal cruelty in the first place, but is convicted of a violation of the Animal Protection Act. She will pay daily fines totaling SEK 1,500.
