It is noted that the parties discussed "some pressing issues of the further development of Russian-Libyan ties", and also "exchanged views on the current situation in Libya."

"The Russian side emphasized the importance of the speedy establishment of an inclusive political process under the auspices of the UN in order to effectively fight terrorism and preserve Libya as a single, territorially integral state," the statement said.

In June, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Libya Gassan Salam.
