It was during Friday morning that the church began its new breakfast service for children and young people between the ages of 9 and 13.

- I baked waffles for 11 children and they were very happy. They thought it would be breakfast here every day, but I think we stick to Fridays, says Sofi Wernersson, who is a parish educator at Vessige church and laughs.

The church must be changing

The idea for a church breakfast came after a conference in Uppsala. The ward educator thought it was a fun idea and brought it back here.

- There are many children who cycle past the church and walk through the cemetery on their way to school. I thought this is great to try.

The goal is for breakfast to be a recurring activity. So far, three mornings are booked in October.

- The idea is to try to find new ways to bring children and young people here to the church. The church must be constantly changing and meeting the children where the needs are, says Sofi Wernersson.

Competing with football and homework

In the afternoon and evening, the church's activities compete with the other activities of the children, but breakfast is a new grip for finding opportunities for more meetings.

- Many children are themselves in the morning and I think it can be nice for parents to know that the children actually eat breakfast.
