“It does not make sense to return to the topic of fulfilling the long and hopelessly outdated CFE Treaty,” the ministry’s website said in a statement.
It is noted that the United States more than once circumvented the limitations of the treaty due to the expansion of NATO and refused to discuss with Russia the renewal of the conventional arms control regime (COVE).
The Foreign Ministry also clarified that the US is using dialogue on this topic as a lever of pressure on Russia.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the report of the US Department of State on commitment to arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation obligations (KVRN) covers the violations of the Americans in this area.
