On the 19th, Rakugo Katsura, an apprentice of the 6th generation Katsura Katsura, and a Canadian rakugo writer, started a long-term performance of rakugo in New York.

Sanki Katsura is a disciple of the upper rakugo community, Fumiyo Katsura, who not only shows rakugo in Japanese but also performs rakugo performances translated into English and French around the world.

Sanki-san planned a long-term performance in New York to create a stage where rakugo could be enjoyed outside of Japan, and about 350 people visited on the first day of the 19th.

Sanki-san compared American and Japanese language and customs, and talked about his training experience as a disciple. ”Was performed in English.

The audience was applauded not only by the skill of the story, but also by the technique of pouring sake using only a fan and a towel, and the technique of expressing the writing of letters on paper.

An American man who saw rakugo for the first time said, “It was a very interesting performance. Japanese culture was also included and it was very interesting.”

This performance is scheduled to be held until next January, and Sanki says, "I want to continue until rakugo has become established as entertainment like theater and dance."
