One month, day after day, after the Koutougou attack of August 19, which had killed more than a dozen soldiers, the Islamic State organization claimed it in its newspaper. It was one of the deadliest attacks in Burkina Faso.

This claim demonstrates an extension of the group's scope of action which was limited until now to the border area with Mali and Niger. It encroaches in fact on the territory of al-Qaeda which, in turn, has increased its attacks on the area.
