In the square in Alingsås, preparations are underway for the celebration. Exactly 16.19 on Saturday, Crown Princess Victoria will inaugurate at Stora Torget, so it is important to get everything in the best condition. The square is still full of parked cars and work is underway to build the big stage where much of the entertainment will take place.

Many who visit the city find it beautiful with its wooden houses and charming streets, but also the proximity to both the big city of Gothenburg and the nature around the city is appreciated.

During the past year, much has been done to get information about the city's anniversary, but there are some who still think more could have been done.

- A little more attention had not hurt, says Tove Oxfort.

- It's a very nice city, which deserves to get more of that product, I think.

The grouse on the hill

Where the name Alingsås comes from is unclear, but one explanation is that a move in took place from Ale, a person called Aling in the 1300s and that this person chose to settle on the ridge which is today located in the district of Nolby.

The city rights were granted to Alingsås in 1619 by Gustav II Adolf, who thus became a city two years before, for example, Gothenburg.

The city has just under 27,000 inhabitants, but with the entire municipality, over 41,000 inhabitants live here.
