The exercise involves rescuing an injured person from high altitude, right next to the top of the bronze pylons, 180 meters above the mouth of the Ångerman River. Some of the participants are out on the bridge wire for the first time and although it is about firefighters with experience in rescue missions, the first steps were exciting.

- It felt in my stomach, noted Hans Nordin, who was one of the course participants.

Double fuses

The firefighters work with double fuses and handle a sledge where a person is placed to make the exercise as realistic as possible. Gradually, the participants look more comfortable and can concentrate on the rescue work.

- It went over quite quickly, you get to focus on the task as well as possible, says Hans Nordin.

- Fortunately, it's pretty good bracket on the wire and you have handles to hold in but it has to have the mobile phone in your pocket and make sure that nothing falls down, he says, saying that a falling object that hits a car down at the bridge could cause a dangerous situation.

Special method

The exercise has been going on during the week with several different groups and is necessary for a sharp position up on the bridge.

- It may be that some maintenance worker can hurt himself, but we have a special method with a stretcher hanging on these guides that runs along the main cable, explains exercise leader Mikael Lundberg, who thinks that the course participants have done well during the course.
