- We have seized tobacco there on four occasions - a total of 1.5 tonnes. Tobacco that we have since destroyed. Low, tobacco was worth SEK 3 million. But besides that, we have also taken care of smaller tobacco products that are not included there, says Sandra Gullberg, head of individual and family care at Åre municipality.

The store was closed last Friday after the municipality found ten-year-old food and fully or partially unlabelled frozen food, including a ton of frozen lamb carcasses.

The store's owner was reportedly now suspected of extensive food cheating and serious food shortcomings. The latter applies to lack of hygiene when waste and foodstuffs are stacked side by side and pests are found on site.

The extent of it was clear last week when the authorities - Åre municipality, the border police, the police, the customs and the tax authorities - conducted a comprehensive inspection in the shop.

Tobacco for millions seized

During the inspection, quantities of tobacco that were seized were also discovered. Exactly the amount of tobacco in question is the municipality so far forgets. But on Wednesday, the municipality filed a prosecution report concerning suspicions that the store had labeled tobacco.

It was after a tip in May 2018 that the municipality opened its eyes to the store's lack of tobacco management. Since then, tobacco has been seized for millions of kronor.

On Monday, in addition to a prosecution report, the municipality also submitted a request for a fine, that the store should be fined SEK 100,000 since the tobacco management deficiencies have already been pointed out without any measures being taken.
