The American whistleblower Edward Snowden worked "for many months" with the novelist Joshua Cohen to write his book "Mémoires vives" which has just appeared in twenty countries, we learned Thursday from the French publisher of the novelist.

"Joshua Cohen, the author of + David King takes care of everything + worked for long months in absolute secrecy with Edward Snowden to write his book + Mémoires vives +", Grasset editions told AFP confirming a information published by The New Republic.

In his latest issue, the US bi-monthly revealed that the former employee of the US intelligence agency NSA wrote his memoirs "with the help of a novelist." According to the magazine, the author of "David King takes care of everything" has traveled to Russia "over the last eight months to help Snowden organize and improve his story".

At the beginning of his book, Edward Snowden thanks Joshua Cohen.

It is not uncommon for celebrities to use recognized writers to help them hold their pen. "Snowden and Cohen are both obsessed with how technology has changed and transformed society," says The New Republic.

Joshua Cohen, 39, has published eleven books since 2005 (three translated into French). Of Ukrainian and Hungarian origin, kneaded with European influences (Joyce, Beckett, Kafka) and Jewish literature (Bellow, Agnon, Celan, Yoel Hoffmann), Joshua Cohen is one of the best American authors of the decade according to the American literary magazine Granta.

Indicted in the United States for espionage and theft of state secrets, deprived of a passport, Edward Snowden resides in Russia where his residence permit was renewed until 2020.
