This year, 638 high school students in Eskilstuna met the knowledge requirements, compared to 617 students last year. Average knowledge results have increased.

- It is incredibly gratifying that the grade point average is increased. It is also fun that more people get approved final grades in mathematics, which is a topic where we have invested heavily in raising results, says Robin Tannarp (M), chair of the high school board.

Reinforced teachers' skills

The reason for the increase in the results of knowledge is mainly due to regular follow-up and development work on the teaching.

- For example, we have been working to strengthen the competence of the teachers and improve their educational work. Since then it has been focused on study roe and how to work as a group.

Fewer students take high school diploma

In contrast, the proportion of students taking high school diploma dropped by two percent. This year, 88 percent of all students in national programs took high school diplomas, last year the figure was 90 percent.

- We have to look at why these students cannot complete their studies if there is some special subject where they do not meet the requirements.

Mental ill health a cause

According to the municipality of Eskilstuna, mental illness is the single biggest reason why students do not reach their goals.

- It is important to capture these students and really overcome the problem of mental illness. And pay close attention to the teaching and talk about it with the students, says Robin Tannarp.

It is possible to discern a very small trend violation where the boys have increased their results and the girls instead show poorer knowledge results. The difference between boys and girls' results is still judged to be too great, although it has decreased somewhat due to last year's results.
