Hallsberg Municipality has worked for the meat you buy to be locally produced and organic. In view of this objective, Andreas Tranderyd (MP) believes that the municipality should not stand out when it comes to meat purchases.

- We are not a municipality that stands out financially, neither that we have much or little money. What I think is that meat costs a lot of money, at least if you want to buy the meat that meets our goals, he says.

No reduction target

The new diet policy, which will be valid for 2019 through 2023, includes an increase in organic and local production, among the objectives. They also say that they offer vegetarian meals to a large extent, but nothing about reducing the amount of meat.

- No. It is not included. We want the meat we buy to be locally produced and comply with Swedish standards. That is the most important thing for us, says Andres Tranderyd.

"It's an important issue"

Conny Larsson (S) is chairman of the operations and service committee, the board that handles the meal issue in Hallsberg, and he believes that they are aware of the situation and that they are working on the issue.

- This is about the environment and we must, based on our operations, handle it and be responsive to what is demanded and required. That's an important issue, he says.

Preschool and bov

One factor that contributes to the large meat consumption in the municipality is the secondary school Alléskolan. With its 1,500 students, it is the county's largest school. There, students are willing to reduce the amount of meat, but not remove it completely.

- I usually stick to the meat dishes, the vegetarian can be a little worse sometimes, says Lollo who does not think that meat has to be served every day.

Mahdi Hassanzadeh thinks it is good to serve both meat and vegetarian.

- I think it's good that you serve both because the body needs both. You should not remove the meat completely, but you can reduce it. The body needs the protein.
