Will the new European Commission receive the approval of the Strasbourg Parliament? Not sure. Ursula von der Leyen was in front of the presidents of the political groups this Thursday morning in Strasbourg in full controversy over the portfolio of the Greek Margaritis Schinas, vice president and commissioner for the protection of the European way of life, and also on several controversial appointments. At the end of the meeting, the President stated that she felt "supported" by MEPs, without further details.

Ursula von der Leyen carefully avoided answering the angry question, she simply spoke of a constructive encounter. But Green group chair Ska Keller has felt there may be adjustments to the term " protection of the European way of life ". A portfolio with fuzzy allocations, which include refugee integration, but also worker skills and security.

Mrs von Leyen did not remove the ambiguities. In any case she did not convince Dacian Ciolos , the chairman of the Renew group, who wants clarifications before the hearing of the commissioners, the ministers of the European Union. Clarifications needed for him also on the commission named and controversial appointments. Several commissioners have judicial disputes (conflicts of interest) or a political profile deemed incompatible with respect for the rule of law by the center and the left.

These hearings begin on September 30th, a sort of examination they pass before the Parliament, and which also allows members to assert their priorities and orientations for the European policy of the next four years. The new European Commission will take office on 1 November.
