The Municipal Police has initiated a plan against Latin gangs and prohibited weapons in six districts of the capital: Vallecas Villa, CiudadLineal, San Blas, Puente de Vallecas, Moratalaz and Vicálvaro. The operation, baptized as Your safe space, has begun to be implemented this past weekend in Vallecas Villa, coinciding with the festivities, and in Ciudad Lineal where this summer there have been several brawls between gang members that have left several seriously injured.

The novelty of this plan is that the bearers of prohibited or dangerous weapons on roads and public spaces will be automatically detained, according to the Municipal Police Commissioner, Francisco Caletrio. «We are doing preventive searches based on what is marked by the Citizen Security Law, the Criminal Code and the Weapons Regulations. If we find a person with weapons and if they meet the established requirements for possession of prohibited weapons, he will be arrested, ”says Caletrio. "In the case that they are minors, they will act in the same way and see the responsibilities they have in accordance with the Minor's Law and we will get in touch with their parents," adds the commissioner who aspires to avoid brawls with weapons or robberies with violence.

This plan is aimed at combating the phenomenon of gang members and will also be extended to places of leisure, recreation and entertainment. "Carrying weapons is not a fine, it is a crime," Caletrio says that "the novelty of this plan is that they will be arrested because we do not want weapons on the street. This is not a jungle and we cannot allow people to go through the streets with these weapons and for that we will apply the current legislation, ”he adds.

In addition to the criminal route, the administrative route will also be implemented and the interventions will also carry fines that can be up to 3,000 euros.

Riot gear

In Linear City agents will be deployed permanently in the main parks of the district. The operation will involve civilian agents, uniformed police officers and the riot police of the Municipal Police. Patrols of the National Police will also be incorporated in the deployment that will take place on Fridays and Saturdays between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

One of the axes of this plan in Ciudad Lineal is Calero Park, perhaps the most emblematic area of the district, given its location, dimensions, services and influx of citizens. It also has the outdoor auditorium where various cultural activities are programs.

The agents are also going to bet in the Arriaga park of the Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood, in the park of the Plaza de Bami and in the garden of José Couso and Julio Anguita Parrado where incidents have also recently occurred.

Agents will also inspect areas where several people ensure that gang members keep their catanas and other objects. In addition, drug checks will be carried out with canine guides and the street sale and the bottle will be monitored.

The areas to be monitored in Ciudad Lineal are controlled by the Los Trinitarios band although there are also other groups such as the DDP (Dominican Don't Play). Puente de Vallecas, on the other hand, is territory conquered by the Ñetas.

In Puente de Vallecas, the agents will pay special attention to the area of Avenida de la Albufera, Peña Gorbea, Monteigueldo, where several very conflicting cocktail bars are concentrated and where there are more incidents related to drug trafficking and fighting. The Municipal Police are working together with the Municipal Activities Agency to get the cessation of some premises. One of the most problematic establishments in Puente de Vallecas is El Patio, which has an activity other than the authorized one and is a source of brawls and fights.

The sale of prohibited weapons will also be pursued by the Municipal Police, especially those produced by social networks and second-hand pages.
