Abdullah Hamed-Cairo

On May 23, Mahmoud Hussein's family and some of his lovers sprinkled sand, an Egyptian tradition that welcomed Aziz.

Aziz was expected to arrive in Egypt's prisons less than 900 days ago, and on that day he received a court decision to release him with precautionary measures, as there was no evidence against him to support the allegations of the State Security Prosecution against him.

Several members of his family gathered at the door of the police station in preparation for his scheduled release. But at first the department refused to receive him for hours during the fasting of Ramadan, and after accepting the introduction, his family continued to visit him every day, waiting to end his exit to life free. Outside, his daughter, Zahra, was wearing a new uniform to wear instead of his white clothes, which, in their color, were depressing.

Finally, after two and a half years of imprisonment without a crime, Mahmoud would breathe every day air other than the air trapped between the cell walls. But the family learned that he had been sent back to Tora prison in a new case.

Back to prison

Mahmoud realized that he was returning to another cycle of oppression and deprivation of all the rights guaranteed to him by the provisions of the laws as a human being and a prisoner, especially the ban on visiting, as it was in his early days of his first imprisonment.

There, in the darkness of Tora Prison, Mahmoud returned to the narrow solitary confinement, where he was first placed for 100 shaved days. International human rights organizations consider solitary confinement itself a violation of human rights, unless the prisoner poses a danger to his peers.

Mahmoud was then placed in a cell that included some criminal prisoners, which saw him fall to the ground in 2017, and his ribs were broken. He needed surgical intervention that the prison administration refused to do until now.

As a result of negligence, the condition of his arm deteriorated into a jerk in his hand requiring regular medication to stop trembling.

First confinement

Mahmoud entered the dark, solitary confinement cell for the first time before he actually entered it. When he disappeared, neither he nor his family knew his whereabouts, the state-owned media published official statements confirming that he was in Tora Prison, following his arrest on December 22. The first 2016.

But the fact that Mahmoud knows, when he was still aware of the sequence of days and months, that he entered it about a week later.

Mahmoud was then giving hope to his relatives that he would soon be out of this ordeal, carrying his hope that he had ruled out - before coming to Egypt on a regular annual leave - that the regime would use it as a tool to blackmail Qatar, as punishment for Al-Jazeera's coverage of Egyptian affairs.

"I do not want to feel afraid of entering Egypt, while walking around the world freely, it is a painful feeling," Mahmoud told a friend advised him not to come to Egypt in late 2016, given the political tension between the two countries. "Who is imprisoning his son to tease his brother?" ? " Thus, Mahmoud asked sarcastically, in a noble conception of the meaning of Egyptian citizenship and Arab brotherhood.

Mahmoud, who is now in his tight cell, amid thick, intense smoke from the criminal prison partners, remembers the difficult days of his imprisonment, since he stepped into his country. He was placed in Tora Prison, where Mahmoud was classified as a political prisoner, denying him the rights of criminal prisoners. , The period of exposure, which does not exceed an hour at best, is expected to be approved by the security every time, it may be surprised - as happened repeatedly - that it is prohibited, without giving reasons.

In one corner of the prison, there is the only luxury that the prisoner can get, where the canteen is the “canteen of the prison”, a place where Mahmoud is forbidden to buy from him without permission, too.

A few minutes of warm embrace between him and the children and siblings, shared by a security person who remains with him, holding a book recording everything said between him and his family, which is what happens when he meets with his lawyer, in flagrant violation of a rule confirming the right of the lawyer to leave his client unhindered But they are also harassed to leave the case.

When Mahmoud and his family try to talk about family affairs in a low voice, the voice of the security officer explodes in a loud voice, or he will end the visit.

Special treatment

Systematic oppression against Mahmoud amounts to a rejection of all his requests to see a doctor, while his health continues to deteriorate due to his oppressed mental state, so that his weight can increase significantly and continuously, and then suddenly lose two kilograms of weight.

Mahmoud Hussein suffered from skin diseases due to contamination of the cell environment, with inflamed red spots that made his skin color appalling and required periodic follow-up.

The amount of the oppression of the men was the rejection of his family's request to leave for one hour or more for a visit to his father, who had a stroke and was unable to speak.

Family visits are a source of hope for the prisoner, except for Mahmoud, who is a source of pain for him. He reads in the eyes of his family members the details of the humiliation they suffered upon entering the prison and asked them to visit him only at intervals to ease them.

On the dates of the visit, a number of members of Mahmoud's family go to Tora Prison in the early hours of the morning, to stand in long queues, and after repeated searches, the most difficult phase is at the last gate, when called on the name of Mahmoud Hussein, here stutter lips caller, and then absent identity Visitors wait for a few minutes, then go out and wait for them to wait for approval after the identification is confirmed.

The waiting time extends for long hours, sometimes up to eight hours, then enter exhausted, and the signs of fatigue and fatigue is not hidden on the eyes.

In his initial detention, Mahmoud Hussein exceeded the period of pre-trial detention, before he was placed in custody for another case, deprived of all his rights until the right to receive books.
