Stockholm's highest politician is not impressed by Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson's (S) budget, which was presented on Wednesday.

"What we see is insufficient investments in police and judiciary in a situation where we are placing ever greater municipal funds on security guards to compensate for lack of security and security," says Finance Minister Anna König Jerlmyr (M).

Billions from Stockholm

Anna König Jerlmyr also says that the municipal equalization system is hitting hard on Stockholm.

- Five billion is paid out of our joint tax assets to other parts of Sweden. That's a tenth of our budget. This money was needed in a situation where we have difficult security challenges.

Anna König Jerlmyr believes that a new, better national system is needed that allows both sparsely populated areas to live and that looks at the specific challenges of big cities, not least the escalating violence and the shooting deaths.

Millions to Stockholm

While the City of Stockholm pays five billion to the equalization system, the government increases the general government grants to municipalities and county councils for the year 2020 by the same amount. Of these, the city receives 329 million of state grants.

- This is going to be unsustainable. The government must take this seriously. We need to ensure that we can also grow, that we can invest in everything from preschool teachers to teachers, but also the security in a situation where we have fewer police officers than before. And that is why we need these funds in Stockholm as well, says Anna König Jerlmyr, adding:

- It is not enough to get a few hundred million SEK back in targeted government grants which are also quite bureaucratic to apply for.
