The inability of the political forces to reach a pact that would allow the investiture and the formation of a government opens before the Spaniards a new scenario of general elections that will conclude with the opening of the polls on November 10.

The calendar set by the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime will start next Monday when the constitutional term of two months after the first investiture vote, held last July, is reached, without any candidate having been able to obtain the confidence of the Congress.

It will be then when the King signs the decree of dissolution of the Cortes and call for new elections with the endorsement of the president of the Congress. The decree will be published on Tuesday 24 in the BOE .

The official race towards the new elections will have begun, although in fact the political forces have been in a continuous campaign for months, taking the ballot box for sure.

From that moment, the parties will undertake the work of preparing their electoral lists. Predictably on this occasion, they will be practically the same as those presented for the elections of April 28. If any retouching to guarantee exit positions to first level names that the different formations usually concentrate on the candidacy for Madrid . On October 15, the final applications will be published in the Official State Gazette .

Two weeks later, on November 1, Friday, the election campaign will officially begin, which will only last eight days this time. This is so by virtue of the modification that was introduced in October 2016 in the Loreg according to which in the case of repetition of elections due to lack of investiture, the elections will be held 47 after the call of the elections and not 54 as it happens in the ordinary electoral calendar, and in addition, the campaign is reduced to only eight days instead of the traditional two weeks.

November 4 will be the last day on which the media can publish polls and surveys. On November 9 the traditional day of reflection will be fulfilled and on 10, the Spaniards will come to vote.

Except for very strong results, something highly improbable, the formation of a Government, at best, will take place on the eve or in the middle of the Christmas period and, if so, the approval in its case of new General State Budgets not It would be possible before spring.
