18 September 2019Coca-Cola Hbc Italia buys Acque Minerali, better known as Lurisia. The main bottler of the products of the Atlanta multinational in our country has in fact signed a preliminary agreement for the acquisition of the Roccaforte Mondovì (Cuneo) company currently controlled by the IdeA Taste of Italy private investment fund, managed by DeA Capital Alternative Funds Sgr, from the Invernizzi family and from Eataly Distribuzione.

The value of Lurisia was agreed at € 88 million, subject to a price adjustment as per market practice. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. Piero Bagnasco, current president and CEO of Lurisia, and Alessandro Invernizzi, representatives of two of the selling shareholders, will remain on the company board - established in 1940 as a thermal establishment - on order to ensure business continuity.

The Lurisia brand offers mineral and sparkling waters from sources at 1,400 meters above sea level on Monte Pigna, in Pet and glass packaging. The company was also a pioneer in offering water in bell-shaped glass bottles. The Sottsass Associati architecture and design studio designed them. The brand, also a Slow Food partner, is also known for drinks inspired by authentic Italian recipes such as Chinotto, Gazzosa, Aranciata (also in the red and bitter version), up to Lemonade and Tonic.

The Piedmont plant is added to the 4 Coca-Cola Hbc Italia plants in Campania, Abruzzo, Basilicata and Veneto, where the largest Coca-Cola production center in Europe is located. A global reality, but also Italian, with plans to invest in industrial capacity which in 2019 amounted to almost 45 million euros. A productive development that is also linked to the attention to the environment: the 4 plants use electricity produced solely from renewable sources and plastic, glass and aluminum packaging is already 100% recyclable.

The acquisition of Lurisia completes the current beverage portfolio of Coca-Cola Hbc in Italy. Furthermore, it supports the management of the company in increasing the premium offer of its range and offering consumers products with a strong tradition and well-rooted Italian origins.
