In a fire in an Islamic school in the Liberian city of Monrovia, 27 students and two teachers died on Wednesday, the police report.
The students and teachers were in a building next to their mosque when the fire broke out in the early morning.
According to the Liberian police, the fire was caused by a short circuit. They are currently still investigating the outbreak and the course of the fire. The police are also looking for people who might still be present in the building.
Two victims are currently in the hospital. President George Weah expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased students via Twitter.
The students were between ten and twenty years old. They will probably already be buried Wednesday afternoon.
My prayers go out to the families of the children who died last night in Paynesville City; as a result of a deadly fire that engulfed their school building. This is a tough time for the families of the victims and all of Liberia. Deepest condolences go out to the bereavedAvatar
