They had been a year after them. The National Police has arrested four members of a gang in Madrid that allegedly perpetrated 40 robberies in bars and game halls in the region, for which they used stolen cars and fire extinguishers that threw at the agents in persecutions , in which they came to drive at 225 kilometers per hour.

Those arrested are charged with theft with force, belonging to a criminal group, vehicle theft, against road safety and an attack on the authority, the Police Headquarters reported on Monday.

The investigation began in July 2018 from a robbery in a betting place in which a previously stolen high-end vehicle was used.

This same car was used in three other robberies with force in several districts of Madrid, as the agents could verify.

Months later, when the group tried to carry out another robbery with force in a bookmaker, he was surprised by the police and fled.

In the persecution, the alleged thieves repeatedly rammed police vehicles. One of the suspects got out of the car to continue the flight on foot , but was intercepted and arrested.

Already last May the researchers found that the same band was committing assaults on bars and betting rooms during the night, so they intensified surveillance to identify their members.

During May and June the group was especially active and, in fact, came to commit five rounds on the same night, some of them by the moon landing procedure.

On several occasions, the detainees stole fire extinguishers from service stations where they were refueling hooded so that, in case they were persecuted by the Police, activate them and create a kind of smoke with the foam to prevent their arrest.

In some cases, they even threw the fire extinguishers at the police cars, which caused one of them to tip over.

In the persecutions they drove recklessly and at great speed, and on August 22 they exceeded 225 kilometers per hour, they have told Efe sources of the investigation.

After various surveillance and follow-up, the agents were able to confirm the participation of all those arrested in the criminal acts, but their location took time because they met in two blocks of homes where their relatives provided them with countervigilance work and hid them.

These are four young residents in the Cañada Real of Madrid and in Alcorcón, between 19 and 27 years old and all of them with a police record: one of them three, another thirteen and another two fourteen.

The youngest has fourteen prior arrests and is the cousin of the well-known criminal Rafael García Fernández, aka El Rafita, according to sources.

The investigation has been carried out by the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade and the Hortaleza District Police Station, which charge the band with a total of 40 criminal actions against the criminal group, twenty of them during May.
