Ric Ocasek, singer of the band The Cars, pioneers of new wave, was found dead Sunday at the age of 75, according to the police in New York.
The latter (NYPD) received a call around 14:00 (20:00 GMT) "for an unconscious man ... his death was pronounced on the spot" and the body was identified as that of Ric Ocasek, said the NYPD in a statement.
The death does not seem suspicious, reports the USA Today.
With Ocasek on the mic, The Cars produced hits like "You Might Think", "Shake It Up" or "Drive" in the 80s.
The band then split during this decade and reformed in 2011 after Ric Ocasek wrote songs that he thought would be better played with his former partners, according to USA Today.
The Cars was introduced to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year alongside Bon Jovi, The Moody Blues, Dire Straits, Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
