29 April 2016A plan "with drastic measures" would have been put in place by the EU to counter the hundreds of thousands of refugees expected this summer from North Africa through the Mediterranean route.

Among the measures, in addition to the creation of "temporary collection centers for refugees and migrants" on Libyan soil, the hypothesis of "arrests" is mentioned. The news was released by the website of the German weekly Der Spiegel, which reviewed a 17-page document, prepared by the European external action service that supports the work of the EU High Representative.

Meanwhile, at the moment Operation Sophia remains active, an EU anti-trafficking mission in the Mediterranean, which has the task of blocking refugee routes in international waters and which has saved 13,000 lives, neutralized 104 boats and arrested 68 suspected traffickers in the last 6 months.
