31 May 2017He confessed in the night the woman who yesterday would have thrown his recently born son from the balcony in Settimo Torinese. "I launched my baby, just given birth, from the balcony of my house." This is what Giuseppe Ferrando, the 34-year-old woman, mother of the newborn found yesterday morning, abandoned in the street, in Settimo Torinese, died shortly after in hospital. The woman collapsed in the night, after she had been stopped by the police of the Chivasso company. According to investigators, immediately after giving birth to her son, the 34-year-old would have thrown him from the balcony on the second floor of the house where he lives, which is right in front of the place where the little body was found. "The woman admitted to having given birth but on everything else she kept saying 'I don't remember'. The dynamic is therefore not yet clear," said Giuseppe Ferrando, "When the child was found on the street - Ferrando reports - yes she is also looking at the balcony with her husband, looking at what was happening ". The woman, the investigators report, does not even remember having got rid of the baby.

To reach her the investigators after collecting some testimonies of the neighbors who in recent times had noticed that the woman, a former 34-year-old Italian bartender who lives with a real estate agent and who has a three-year-old daughter, seemed pregnant. A precise question, however, denied being one. Immediately after the baby was found, she looked out of the window to watch the rescue. On the morning of the delivery, the companion apparently noticed blood-soaked towels in the bathroom, but the woman reported having had an abundant cycle, then as every morning she accompanied the 3-year-old child to kindergarten.

The investigators were struck by the astonishment of the woman in learning that she would be arrested. "When they told her that her son was dead, she had no reaction. During the interrogation she never cried," Ferrando said. "I didn't think I was pregnant because I had a menstrual cycle. I woke up at dawn, I knew a baby was born but I don't know what happened to the baby" - he told the police.

Investigators are trying to understand the reasons behind the dramatic gesture as well as the dynamic. The woman would also mention an alleged illness of her husband and her daughter, and her fear of it. Thus among the hypotheses of the motive there is also the fear that could be transmitted to the unborn child. The woman is now admitted to the Sant'Anna gynecological hospital in Turin for investigations and will then be transferred to prison. For her the accusation is aggravated murder.

The child was found by a young man of 22 who, at 6.30 yesterday morning, drove by car to the central Via Turati on his return from work. It was he who immediately called 112. The child, probably just given birth, had been left on the side of the road. When 118 arrived, the baby was in cardiac arrest. After reviving him, he was rushed to the Regina Margherita children's hospital where he was intubated. His condition, however, appeared immediately desperate and death occurred after about an hour. From the first surveys, it appears that the birth dated back to at most three hours before the finding. Next to the child, light-skinned, the soldiers found a towel stained with blood.
