Surrey (dpa) - The British singer Sir Rod Stewart ("Some Guys Have All The Luck") has surprisingly announced that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer more than three years ago.

According to a report in the newspaper "Mirror" Stewart told his audience at a charity concert of the disease, which was determined during a routine examination in February 2016. He's fine, "just because I recognized it early," the 74-year-old was quoted as saying. "God has kept an eye on me."

Stewart recommended that other men be examined regularly. "Guys, you really have to go to the doctor," he said. At the show, Sir Rod was accompanied by Kenney Jones and Ronnie Wood, his former fellow musician from The Faces. The proceeds of the concert should benefit a foundation to fight prostate cancer.
