Brussels (AP) - The future Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has defended the controversial title of her designated Vice-President for the "Protection of the European way of life".
These are European fundamental values such as human dignity, freedom, democracy and the rule of law, wrote the CDU politician in the "Welt" (Monday). The title for the designated Greek EU Commissioner Margaritis Schinas had caused displeasure, because it also hides the responsibility for migration. Critics complain, suggesting that Europe must be protected against immigration. Outgoing Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker advised his successor to change the title.
