2018 - At the World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the German eighth wins gold. The defending champion arrives in front of Australia and Great Britain.
2009 - For the first time two German merchant ships successfully sailed the so-called Northeast Passage off the coast of Siberia. The "Beluga Fraternity" and "Beluga Foresight" saved on the way to Asia a good 5400 kilometers over the traditional route through the Suez Canal.
