It is about theft in the elderly living in care homes and in the home of the elderly with home care. Malmö's own statistics show a sharp increase since 2013.

But in 2018, the trend reversed and the number of thefts began to decline. The Health and Care Administration has hired a security officer and launched an information campaign that tells the elderly how to protect themselves from theft.

Don't let in unknowns

Head of unit Rusmir Fajkovic on the administration of health, care and care, gives examples.

- If someone calls who they do not recognize, they should request the credentials that all our employees have. Otherwise, they should not let the person in. And medicine and jewelry should be stored in locked rooms, he says.

At the same time, care homes have been overhauled so that unauthorized persons cannot enter

Missing evidence

All thefts are reported to the police.

"But in most cases, the investigation is unfortunately closed down to a lack of evidence that points out an offender," says Rusmir Fajkovic.

He is pleased that the theft development has now turned.

- Every theft is a disaster, both for the elderly and for us. The older people must feel that they can trust us.
