He was the most prolific abortion doctor in the history of Indiana, in the US. He started his career in 1974 and interrupted about 30,000 pregnancies. Dr. Ulrich Klopfer was already news in 2014, when he was accused of not notifying the abortion he had performed on a 13-year-old girl. A year later he would lose his medical license, accused of not having qualified personnel to monitor his patients during the procedures.
However, it would not be until after his death, on September 3, when Klopfer would jump to the front pages of the US media. And all because of a macabre find that surprised his relatives when he went to check his house: the doctor had 2,246 medically preserved fetuses at home.
The Will County Forensic Office on Thursday received notice from the lawyer who manages family affairs. When Dr. Klopfer's relatives collected the deceased's personal belongings, they had found thousands of fetal remains and requested that they leave.
"There is no evidence that medical procedures will be performed on the property," says the County Sheriff's Office in a statement, adding that an investigation has been opened and that the family is "cooperating fully."
