The center or back of Ireland's Robbie Henshaw, hit by a thigh during preparation for the World Rugby Championship in Japan, could miss the first game of the Shamrock Fifth against Scotland next Sunday, his coach said Sunday.

"We hope it's not too bad, but it's likely (he will be unavailable this week)," Ireland coach Joe Schmidt told a news conference, adding that his player would an exam in the day.

"It could be a cramp, we've traveled a lot, but if it's more than that (...) we know we have good fallback solutions," continued Schmidt, who asked that the player of Ulster Will Addison does not participate this weekend in the match with his club "as a precaution".

Henshaw had already missed out on the first two World Cup matches, which his injured country had left in the quarter-finals due to a physical glitch.

Ireland faces Scotland in the opening of the 2019 World Cup on 22 September in Yokohama, six days before their second pool match against the host country.
