• Dana: After the catastrophe of the cold drop: Why has the Vega Baja been flooded?
  • Direct witness: Drinking water tanks and fish in the streets

Once out of focus of the cold drop, which has moved to the peninsular center this Sunday and kept 14 provinces under yellow warning, the Valencian Community - and especially the south of Alicante, the area most affected by DANA - have begun to evaluate the damage, while maintaining the alert in areas still flooded.

Especially complicated is the situation in Almoradí, where a new break in the Segura river has come to be added to a previous one at the Algorfa bridge , causing the water to overflow and flood this and other neighboring towns.

During the day, technicians from the Segura Hydrographic Confederation have evaluated the situation to repair the different breaks , while asking for maximum caution in the area. Because of the damage, initially it was planned to evict the hamlet of Heredades, although finally it was not necessary. The Confederation has reported that the first break is already repaired and is currently working on solving the second, which has taken place at a different point than the first, but is controlled. Initially, the repair work of this second break could be extended until Monday.

As the day has progressed, the electricity supply in Almoradí has been restored, while in Dolores the fixed and mobile telephone lines have been recovered . These and other municipalities affected by the storm also distribute food and drinking water to citizens waiting to regain normalcy.

On the other hand, in the Alicante municipality of Dolores, a team of the Special Group of Underwater Activities is looking for a man, of Dutch origin, who according to a witness was dragged by the stream of water in the Mayayo ditch.

During the early morning, some 1,500 people have had to be evicted in an orderly manner and without injuries from a campsite in the municipality of Crevillente because of a flood of waters. Shortly afterwards the Civil Guard preventively evacuated another campsite near the town of Guardamar due to the risk of a water avenue.

On a visit to the affected areas, the acting Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, declared herself "absolutely overwhelmed and affected" after checking "in situ" the "Dantesque" effects of DANA in Alicante and Murcia , where she pledged the help of the armed forces "until the end."

Next to her, the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig, has warned the population of the south of the region to continue to exercise extreme caution because, although it has stopped raining, the risk has focused this Sunday on the floodwaters of the river Sure, it was going down "very high."

There, two teams of the Special Operations Command (MOE) of the Army have moved, which have reinforced the presence of troops in the affected areas with 200 more soldiers - up to 1,400- to warn the population to evacuate and locate citizens with reduced mobility to raise them to high floors .

Meanwhile, an unprecedented military deployment of professionals and vehicles, trucks, boats, drones and helicopters tried to help affected people in all these areas and to mitigate the consequences of the storm.

King Felipe VI has spoken this Sunday with the regional presidents of Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencian Community and Murcia to be interested in the situation in their respective territories after the floods caused by the cold drop.

Sources of the regional administrations have confirmed to Efe the telephone calls of the head of the State to Juan Manuel Moreno, Emiliano García-Page, Ximo Puig and Fernando López Miras .

As reported by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the displacement on Saturday of DANA to the west has given a break to the Mediterranean area, although still with showers of some intensity that have not come to activate the warnings .

Aemet expects instability to persist, which will lead to showers and thunderstorms in areas of the interior of the peninsula, especially in the northern half and central area, but in principle they will not reach the intensity of this past weekend.

During this Sunday, about twenty roads were still closed in the Community , which is expected to recover in the coming days.
